Staying human in a digital world is hard. In a world of mass production and artificial “intelligence,” I believe that educating our young people as whole humans is more important now than ever, because education is really about building relationships—with other humans, with the world around us, and beyond. We know our students are much more than a number, a test score, or a grade, yet the pressure to meet external standards often crowds out the important work of developing deep understanding, cultivating curiosity, and giving them the tools and desire to be lifelong learners. True understanding is my goal for your students. I have seen that the student who is genuinely curious and develops understanding will, over time, outperform the student who was trained to parrot an answer for a test and promptly forgets. And it works—you will see them make rapid progress when this is achieved.

For the past 15+ years, I’ve been in education, helping build a private K–12 school from the ground up while serving as assistant principal, teacher, and curriculum developer. I’ve built my life around being a teacher, and the most important thing I’ve learned is that I’m also a student. I’ve built proven strategies to identify obstacles, develop individualized plans, and help students find what motivates them by making meaningful connections. Every child is a capable thinker. My strength is helping students identify knowledge gaps, create concrete educational goals, and make steady progress toward becoming lifelong learners. Not only can they do hard things, but they can understand, remember, and care. The caring is what makes us human.
